MV BALTIC AMBER THE NEW LD LINES SHIP FOR THE SAINT-NAZAIRE/GIJON ROUTE

The MV BALTIC AMBER is the new ship on the Saint-Nazaire/Gijon service, the ship was recently introduced and came as a replacement for the slightly smaller NORMAN BRIDGE which started this service late last year, the BALTIC AMBER was built in Italy and delivered in 2007 she has a GT of about 27.000 and a top speed of 24 knots, the capacity is for up to 120 trailers and 518 passengers, I have travelled on both ships the BA has better passenger facilities, is more stable at sea, this is due to the ship being fully stabilized, althought I am not sure if they are used full time, on my trip back from Spain she did roll a lot in a very moderate swell, the crew is mainly from Lithuania with the hotel services being monitored by portuguese staff, both the BA and the NORMAN BRIDGE have one thing in common they take long time to load, the company is working on this with the introduction of a new ramp, the cars are parked on deck number five, very handy for car passengers as all the ships facilities are located on deck number five, this is still of course early days for this new fantastic project, in time, better food will have to be introduced and seperate areas for trailer drivers and car passengers, they simply don´t like to be mixed, some photos included of the passenger facilities and the ship at sea
