P & O ship "WILLIAM FAWCETT" of 1828

Althought never owned by P & O the "WILLIAM FAWCETT" built in 1828 was considered to be the first P & O ship, she started a service with the then known "Peninsular Steam Navigation Company" in 1835 connecting London with Spain and Portugal with turnarounds in Lisbon, this was extended on several voyages to Gibraltar as well. On board "SPIRIT OF FRANCE"

For the second time in the last three weeks I was once again back on board P & O FERRIES "SPIRIT OF FRANCE" for a crossing from Dover to Calais, photos included were taken last thursday on the very limited, in terms of space, outdoor decks reserved for passengers, shame on the majority of Cruise Ferries and indeed in many passenger cruise ships, there is almost no space outdoors, this is the only setback on these new superb SPIRIT CLASS ships. As we sailed away from our berth we left behind the recently arrived "PRIDE OF CANTERBURY" and the famous White Cliffs of Dover
