The end of the regular service between Portimao, Funchal and the Canary Islands

After five years of regular service between the Portuguese Mainland and the Island of Madeira, the Spanish operator ARMAS decided to withdraw from the service, sad news particulary for the population of Madeira which is now deprived  of an alternative way of transport from the Island. THE CRUISE TERMINAL AT PORTIMAO


This was my first visit to the cruise terminal at Portimao, the date 17th July, sunday a particular busy one as well, the VOLCAN DE TIJARAFE was getting ready for her weekly departure to Madeira, during that week end one of Europe´s biggest bike concentration took place in the Algarve, some 30000 bikers turned up and the "Madeira Motard Club" was present as the photos witness

FERRY SERVICE FROM PORTIMAO TO THE ISLAND OF MADEIRA



NAVIERA ARMAS is a Spanish ferry operator founded in 1944, they are based at the Canary Islands and have a fleet of 12 ships, the company operates mainly in the Canaries but services have been extended to the Island of Madeira and Portugal, today a weekly departure is available from Portimao in the Algarve to Madeira all year round, the vessel employed on this route is the VOLCAN DE TIJARAFE, for further information please visit Naviera´s website on www.naviera-armas.com.
