CANBERRA A BRITISH FAVOURITE

The SS CANBERRA of 1961 was one of the most loved ships all over the world, particulary in the UK she had an amount of followers and devotees only compared to the QE2 and possibly to the old QUEEN MARY, I have photographed the vessel many times in different places, the reception of the ship was always a moment to remember but nothing compared to the Southampton homecomings or departures, she was indeed a unique vessel that set up standards in ship building, the ship was built at HARLAND and WOLF, she was a troop carrier during the Falklands, where she was sent to the heart of the conflict, unlike the QE2 and she survived a few challenges, the biggest of all escaping ship breakers when she was barely 12/13 years old and of course when she was converted to full time cruising she was tailored with the british passengers in mind only, unlike the CUNARD QUEENS for instance, so the affection to the "GREAT WHITE WHALE" was truly remarkable and unique. I will always remember her as one of my favourite ships of all time
